The "new surrealism"
“True creation does not worry
to be or not to be art.
For me, creating a bottle is underlying a narrative,
a theatricality.
Damien creates a new reality.
Not stories, it is up to us to invent them, to live them:
Arbrorigen men
Women Fabrics,
of clay, stone, fire.
One would dream of an opera of grass,
a life-size Sistine.
(...) Damien writes on the faces of material novels.
Present of the past.
It erases the imperfect of the subjective.
With him the stones roll,
clay shapes faces.
But why didn’t God do it?
Fashion, fashion, makeup,
no: ARTIST!"
SERGE MANSAU
Festive visions
"(...) Damien Dufresne tells us himself: "I let my hands speak."
It creates a presence, a question adorned with feathers, sequins, thickness of matter or a veil of pigment, lines or streaks, crusts, barks, fire and ice - all these «spots on the human retina» that Baudelaire so well spoke of.
(...) Damien Dufresne oscillates between romanticism and onirism. Seeing ultrasensitive, it captures intimacy because, to be able to paint and work on a body, one must enter into a total relationship of trust with the model, feel and understand it. Beside the known and agreed aesthetic language, the artist creates a new language, bold and sensitive at the same time, confusing and heady as a rare perfume; a language of feeling: joy, sadness, euphoria, silence, action. Everything happens, is perceived and felt.”

Self-portrait
"To photograph is to capture moments to try to retain them"...
... "I am a photographer who paints his models to make characters"...
... "It’s hard for me to talk about my work, especially since it’s both instinctive and intuitive"...
... "Makeup is built little by little, one color brings another, one line brings another"...
... "For the photo, it’s the same thing, we must not "force" anything, the image often comes from itself, it appears gradually in the viewfinder… as obvious"...
... "A model is not a blank page. It interprets the character, brings my work to life. Without it, makeup does not exist"...
... "I ask my models to forget the camera, I always have the temptation of the "stolen photo", the unique image."...
... "I don’t like compositions, nor do I like pictures that "tell stories". I take pictures that speak to me. I don’t like photoshop, my images are the ones I see in my viewfinder"...
... "I would like my images to be like scores: timeless, moving, poetic"...
... "Last but not least, a shot is a team. I had the chance to meet models, makeup artists, photographers who followed me and trusted me.
We shared the same passion, we became a big family, we trusted each other.
I know I was very lucky. I know that alone, we are nothing."
